WW1 Memories

My Grandmother volunteered to be a Bus Conductor during WW1. Here she is having a studio photo taken in her uniform….she would have been 18 years old in 1914 although the photo is not dated. I remember her telling me that her mother insisted on meeting her at the bus depot if she was on a late shift to accompany her safely home. Grandma did not like this and asked her not to come because she was embarassed!!! Her mother gave in but only if she agreed to carry a large hat pin in her pocket to defend herself, should she ever need to!!!!!!
